THE DESIGN CHALLENGE
We were prompted to investigate a social issue and ultilize design knowledge and methodologies to generate feasible design solutions. Coming from a developing country, my interests lie in improving people’s quality of life, which inspired me to look into discriminatory hiring, especially when it comes to employment among people with physical disabilities.
?
“How can we increase employment rate for people with physical disabilities and help them retain their jobs?”
It was important to identify the gaps in existing services - which I believe didn’t justify why people with physical disabilities are capable candidates to many employers out there. I created 2 personas based on my in-depth interviews with 2 employers, then performed a competitive analysis of the role played by March of Dimes, Stopgap Foundation and the Government and built diagrams to illustrate my findings.

User Journeys
Employees with a disability often undergo job training at an employment center before being sent to a designated company. They are equipped with standardized assistive devices and basic skills that will prepare them for the job. Unfortunately, they are bound to encounter unexpected problems that are beyond what their tools are capable of. So often, their employers are unable to help due to the lack of knowledge and resources.
After identifying new opportunities, I created a business model canvas, following by story boards to illustrates the client’s journeys. For this project, it was important that I employ the business aspects of service design, including cashflow projections, branding, and marketing in order to prototype a comphensive business proposal.
